Meh

I missed my workout today because I got out of work after 6 pm. It takes an hour to come home and I just cannot see working out until 8 pm and being able to sleep tonight - my workouts have really suffered this month. And Thanksgiving is coming up along with me going to be gone for a week and an half. We shall see. I just gotta keep working on the food plan.

Keep it up SC. Keep it up!

What a week!

Well, the furnace went out this week, and I worked at s. for the week. So my workout regimen went down the tubes! I have worked out twice. My weight has maintained where it is - 167 lbs!

2-3 people have commented on how good I look. My most recent batch of pics (the Halloween Renew Retreat) I look awesome! I still don't have a chin, but that may never come back - I always did have vague chin.

I have a friend that is getting friendly! I really like him and I hope this goes on to become something more than just friends. He's great. I like that things are moving slowly.

Well, it's been good overall! I love my life right now!!

A new low - how wonderful!

Well, as I suspected, after TTOM was over, my wt was down to 168 today pre and post workout!!! Giving up ETOH on a nightly basis has really helped! YAY! I keep working out - I have renewed my interest in getting the weight off, I am pushing myself harder again, and the weight is coming off! Life is wonderful!

Capiche, Fat?

You are leaving! I am staying! I am taking over this body, you are NOT in control anymore!

Suzana and I did measurements today and I am down across the board, with one exception.... my thighs are up 2 inches! I think this is because I do sooo much lower body cardio (well, the legs ARE your powerhouse in terms of muscles) I am overall happy that inches are coming off since the last time we did measurements (JUNE!) My weight is down overall. Body fat is down to 33%. AWESOME!!!! I told ya, I am in control now! :) The one thing that is kind of discouraging is that my lean muscle mass is down to about 115 lbs. This is down 10 lbs from the last time we did measurements. Suzana was not really thrilled about this, but said that is was going to happen at some point. I wonder, really, if this is because of the long break I took from weights this summer. After all, I started coming home and running to avoid the gym/get out in the sun... I think that at least part of the muscle loss may be due to that. (bummer, because muscles burn more calories)

For the immediate future....

1. I got this beat! I want this weight off and I am going to make those last pounds go away and stay away! I own this body now!
2. I am pondering a real extreme diet change, but I hate to mess with a system that is working! I still have to think about it and see what I can do to make things better before I jump in with both feet into something that might make me more prone to binging. Two things I know I can change: Stop snacking on candy at work!!! and cutting out the ETOH except for Thursdays.... Sigh, I will miss the beer and wine!
3. I am soooo much better off than where I was a year ago! I love my body more now that I did last year and feel like I can do so much more with myself!

Life is good!!!

here we are!

THings have been so busy lately that it's been hard to get all my workouts in for the week ( I am shooting for3 cardio and weights and one yoga)

My weight has been consistently in the low 170's. That's amazing. I love it. I would love to get more off, but maintaining is awesome too! What's not to love about looking great and feeling great!

Off to do more things.

Wt post workout today - at gym, no shoes - 171 lbs.

Life really is good!

I have been experimenting with working out 3 days a week with cardio. So far, in the past 3 or so weeks that I have going, I have not lost a drop of weight. It's all hard, what with all the work I have been putting in. I try to remember that I work out to feel better about myself, not to fit into a certain size pair of pants.

Life really is good, I am 45 pounds better than when I started out - I have been looking adn feeling so much better, it's amazing.

All in all, I love where I am at. I plan to keep up my work and see what happens.

Wt this evening at the gym no shoes: 173.

Today was a gooood day!

Exercise: 20 min with Suzana, then 30 min on the elliptical. I had 4 minutes where I rested, the rest was straight cardio. It was not as hard as I remembered straight cardio being. I will have to alternate straight cardio and interval training to try to get the benefits of both. During my time with Suzana, I think I may have pulled my left groin. It;s a little painful to sit indian-style, which I do a lot in the evenings. :)

Food for today:

Breakfast - Milk, large handful blueberries, 1 serving all bran, 30 gm (slightly more than 1/2 a serving) of oat squares cereal (DAMN, I love that cereal!)

Lunch - Spinach, broccoli, about 10-15 cherry tomatoes with one serving honey dijon dressing. 1 serving spicy corn quinoa soup. The soup is delish! I am totally making that again. I bought more quinoa this week at Whole foods.

Pre-workout snack - apple

Dinner - 2 tomatoes sliced (Mom and Dad;s next door neighbor planted to many, so she gave me some!), a peach, 1 slice bread (90 cal) and 31 grams sharp cheddar (slightly over 1 serving)

post dinner snack - 150 cal of dark chocolate and a yeungling (my favorite beer)

Life is good - I am keeping it off and getting more off. I have a short term goal of getting off 20 lbs by the end of January - at that time, with that weight loss.... I will be of a NORMAL weight! (at least according to the BMI calculator)

I also called the Health Promotions department of the hospital for follow up. I plan to meet with a RD (Registered Dietician) sometime in the near future so that I can see if I am missing anything and what I can do to improve things. She gave me some good tips for not grazing at parties or events where there is food out all the time.

1. plan ahead for it and don't break the calorie budget by not thinking ahead.
2. drink a glass of water before starting to eat while you are out.
3. don't beat yourself up if you DO eat too much. You are only human!

I am going to have to start using these this weekend!

Addendum: Wt - 174.8 in the AM. Wt post workout 173.4 lbs.

I was down to 172 on Friday. The Labor Day party was good in terms of seeing old friends, bad in terms of food. The time on the treadmill worked off that 1/4 lb hot dog!

Monday, August 31, 2009

Monday foodstuffs:

Breakfast: 1 serving oat squares cereal, 1 handful blueberries, vitamin D milk.

Lunch - Leftover taco meat, 1 serving chips, apple, salad with 1 serving green goddess.

Dinner - Mexican with Mom

Dessert - 2 slices buttermilk pie with fresh strawberries, 2 beers.

Had a workout before dinner - got 20 min running in. Also had to come home and start a load of whites... white is such a bad thing for someone to wear for someone who ends up dealing with incontinence so much.

Wt post workout.

173.6!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! YAHOOOOOO!

Day the whatever...

Food journal. It's been a long time since I began this long journey into getting healthy and losing the weight. I have been stuck where I have been for some time, but I am so much better than where I started!

Food:

Breakfast - 2 oatmeal scones with honey. 600 ml water,

Lunch - meatloaf - between 3 and 4 oz. Spinach with 2/3 serving green goddess - 2 servings carrots. 1 diet pepsi.

Dinner - Vitamin D milk, 1 serving oatmeal cereal, handful blueberries. 1 serving chocolate frozen yougurt.

1 yeungling.

4 handfulls pretzels. I was happy with the food journal up until the pretzel bit. I wanted another beer too, but had some unsweetened green tea instead. I will have some more green tea and then off to bed.

Had a walk after work: took me 36 minutes to walk what I normally run in 20 min. I guess I am not as slow as I think I am. I did want to go for a walk, but not to run today, because my legs and glutes hurt after yesterday.

Blog blog blog

I feel like I keep telling myself that I need to blog more often. After all, I work out 4-5 times a week, I eat every day, and I send my food journal to Rosie quite often. And yet, here we are AGAIN, it's been a month since last I blogged about my wt loss journey.

So food for today:

Breakfast: 2 oatmeal scones with 2 small jelly cups (ya know, the ones that you get in a greasy spoon diner) 1 cup coffee with almond creamer. 600 ml water.

Lunch - 3.5 oz meatloaf (it's a mixed meatloaf - 1/2 turkey, 1/2 ground beef) with a sweet glaze, a salad with green goddess (2/3 of a serving of dressing) and a sweet delish peach.

had a bottle of H20 on the way home from work.

Ran 20 min in the 90+ heat, then spent 10 minutes weedwacking on the slope out back (got the ol' HR back up to the 140's), then did 100 squats (felt it in the glutes and thighs today)

a serving of vitamin D milk post run.

Dinner: 1 serving of lentil-bean soup, with 9 saltines, 1 serving frozen yougurt (120 calories, and so delish. I needed the chocolate) a single yeungling...

Later on - I had a 1/2 a quart of water, then had another serving milk with oatmeal squares cereal (I love it - it's so expensive, but I like it so much!)

It does not sound too bad, I don't think....

Wt post workout and more water than usual..... 177 lbs.

Plateau

So in the last month - I am finally down to 179, right before TTOM struck me this week. I finally started getting some progress again when I gave up beer for a week and then started working out every day for 20 min a day, while continuing to do weights 3 times a week. I feel bad about just maintaining for the past month - it's been frustrating, like the body is resisting the weight loss after having dropped so much weight. I keep going - I keep working out. I am so pleased with my progress and I am NOT going to let myself get that fat again.

Issues - this week, I had to work on the ostomy module so hard that that is what made necessary the drop in time that I spent at the gym this week. I did work 5 days this week. I thought I was going to have a 4 day weekend, but ended up working a half day yesterday and then for the peds home care agency today. so I end up with a normal, but busy weekend. Oh well. That's life I guess.

Tuesday, June 16, 2009

Update.... I should do this more often!

SO here I am - it's June 16th, 2009. My wt today, post workout, was 182 lbs! I am amazing!

I did 20 min cardio on the elliptical and then 15 min on the bikes for spinning. Sarah was there, her birthday is tomorrow and she invited me to go to Dave and Busters with her and some other people tomorrow evening. I should have been studying this evening, but I got waylaid by the internet and some beer. (I <3 beer)

SO I am making progress. I keep working, keep eating, keep moving forward.

That's life.

Weight loss.. or is it?

So I seem to have plateaued...

My wt yesterday post-workout was still 189. I am getting a little frustrated. I know part of this is all the extraneous things like eating out with friends. I wonder if the culprit is the shorter workouts that I have been doing with the higher intensity. (ie the 20 min treadmill thing 4 days a week) Well, and part of it might have been all the beer that made it's way into me on vacation last weekend.

So.... I decided I would NOT stop working out and eating well. I will go more veggie (because veggies are low cal and filling) so that's one thing. The other thing is that I tried to kick it up a notch (BAM!) by doing 30 min cardio (20 treadmill then 10 on the elliptical) took a 15 min break, then did a 50 min spinning class. I just gotta get back to at least 30 min per day.

I think I will also give up ETOH again. That did seem to help out. I just miss the weeks where 3 lbs would come off.

Biggest loser had it's finale yest. I really enjoy that show. The pics are especially inspiring to me. To see how large these people are, and then how they get down and looking fantastic! It's amazing! I want to live that biggest loser, maintaining lifestyle!! I would not want to do get the wt off like they do there. For one thing, going to the biggest loser campus is so dramatic. I want to lose wt while living my own life. The other thing is that I do not want my weight loss to be a competition with other people. I want my weight loss to be MY weight loss. I really enjoy it. GO BIGGEST LOSER! And yes, I am totally going to do the pound for pound challenge with the next show. I love the thought of donating food to charity while I lose weight!

I think this is a good time to remember all the things I have gained by losing the almost 30 lbs I HAVE lost!
  1. I look better than I have in years!
  2. I feel better than I have in years! For the first time in my adult life, I LOVE the fit new me!
  3. People notice that I sound happier!
  4. I need new clothes again!!!
  5. Taking care of me is happening! Let's NOT ever lose that!
  6. My mom is proud of me for losing the weight! (I still need approval, oh well)

Saturday, April 25, 2009

Well, in the last 2 weeks I am down to 189.12 (this was on Thurs) and then today I was 190 - I have had a lot of fast food this week (Donato's, olive garden, and dagwoods) so I think that I might just need to kick the diet in gear and the weight will continue to come off.

Well, this week is a fresh start! I can do this. I want to get to 145!

Saturday, April 11, 2009

Whooooo HOOOO

I am down to 191lbs!!

This week has been interval training on the treadmill (20 min intense workout in the mornings before work)

I also went and got a mani-pedi this week. It felt soooo good.

Edited: 5/13/09 - That's a 6 lb loss in 1.5 weeks!! POSITIVE OUTLOOK SARAH!

Sigh - disappointing to still be at 197 lbs.

Worked out today - 20 min interval training on the treadmill, 20 min with Suzana (60 squats with 40 lb wt added on, 4 laps around gym, 50 Jumping Jacks)

Have I mentioned I hate Jacks? They suck so bad. sooo very badly.

I am planning to get a better sports bra. I need to support.

Monday Monday

Long day at work.

Did the fitness ride this morning followed by my session with the trainer.

I am 197!!!!

YAY!

So happy with that!

Just gotta keep on keeping on!

Wednesday, March 11, 2009

One-der Land!!!!

I am now officially less than 200 lbs! I was 199 lbs on Monday morning after the fitness ride!! I was so pleased. I just cannot tell you how pleased I am about this. It's been a lot of hard work. I have been working out 3 times a week. Generally - one to two fitness rides per week and then on my own one day a week.

This week.

Monday - fitness ride and then workout with trainer in the morning.

Today - core and tone 45 min - and then 10 min cardio each on the elliptical, bike and then treadmill, with a 3 min cool down after each. so took me about another 45 min. I did weigh myself after this workout and it was 198.12!!! And on my period too! I am hoping I diurese a lot this weekend and go down again before Monday!

On the food front, there have been some temptations with cravings and indulgence (I did go buy chips and dip on Sunday because I wanted pizza and trusted myself less with that) I did eat of the chips and dip 3 times, but did not finish it (I threw it away this morning when I was done with it) Now that the period has actually started, I don't really feel those cravings at all - for now - I know they will be back. I plan to work on that same strategy, eat a little of the desired item, put the rest away and then move on with my life.

Working off the pounds

I went to spinning class on Wednesday and had such a good time - sat there thinking, man I don't like this, but it;s working off all that rich food I overate! I did however almost get sick, because it was 6:30 pm and I did not eat a snack before that. I will never do that again. If I go to the later one, I will have to have a snack. I almost threw up from working out so hard on an empty stomach.

I worked out on Mon (10 min cardio, elliptical, 30 min with Suzanna), Wed (10 min elliptical, 60 min spinning), Friday (10 min elliptical, 10 min treadmill, 10 min bike) and Sat (20 min elliptical, 5 min bike). I weighed myself Sat after the workout and I was 202 - I am hoping this is where I will be on Monday with Suzanna. I only count my weight then as an official weigh in, because I usually do the workout sessions at a similar time.

Whew 75 jacks tonight - will probably do another 25-50 while working on dominos with Rosie.

Working out / Working FT

It's been a bit of a struggle to get the workouts in in the midst of all the things that are being done - the wound module, the kitchen remodel and trying to keep on target with getting the weight off.

Did do one class on Fri - the spinning class. My trainer taught that class and she works you out HARD. There was a lot of audible panting after the challenges.

So there is one setback that has hit this week. I think the hernia I had repaired in 2004 ish - it's seemed to pop back out - that LLQ of my abdomen, just above the incision is tender and a little sore from time to time. Sigh. I don't need this right now or ever. I do not want to have another surgery to have it fixed, and I just cannot see having time to have that done anyway.

So I plan to keep working out on the cardio and keeping an eye on the the tummy. Also plan to talk to Mom about it tomorrow, have her assess it and see what she thinks. I am deeply disappointed by this.

Down to 205 lbs today post workout!!!! YAY. I kinda wonder if one hour 3 times a week is what is helping - let the body get down and then kick it into gear again to get the weight off.

Rosie, Mom, and I are entering into a challenge for Memorial Day, I think is the cutoff, 10% off. So my goal will be another 20.5 lbs off - or down to 184.5 lbs by Memorial Day. I think that is easily do-able. I just gotta keep working.

Today Suzana and I worked out the upper body and then I did 30 min cardio - 10 min elliptical, 10 min treadmill and 10 min bike. I am not sure sometimes that the sensors are accurate because the bike kicked my butt today - I felt very out of breath and was huffing and puffing, but it said my HR was only 148. Seemed like more than that when I was doing it but oh well.

The kitchen is all packed up this week - Brad S is coming on Thurs to get started on the remodel, so I am currently down to a microwave in the bedroom. I have frozen chicken strips, frozen meatballs (a serving is 2 meatballs! I cannot believe that because they are TINY) one frozen dinner and a whole lot of potatoes to have for dinners. For breakfasts, there were 2 boxes of instant oatmeal on sale at Marsh (because they were dented) but I bought them because they were $1 per box, so that will help too in the mornings - I can heat them up and go. I am curious to see what my limitations for the next few weeks or so will do to this journey.

Highs and Lows

Feeling stressed about it all - the job, Rosie's Vacay, the kitchen project.

2 weeks ago I weighed 207, 2 days later 211 - then got minimal workout due to spending time with the family. Felt very frustrated by that, and due to the lack of low fat, high veggie foods. Rosie and I worked out Monday last and it was good - she is in better weight lifting shape than me - but I am in better cardiac shape than her. So I was surprised on Mon when I was back down to 207. This is my first ten lbs.

I did not workout tonight - have been working on relaxing and doing some planning to get through the month. I think it will work - it will just be a diffucult month.

Saturday

Worked out with Suzana today. I had not weighed myself since out last workout (1/19/09) now I am down to 207!!! I hit my 10 lb goal. Goal for Valentine's Day - Onederland!!!

lots of leg workouts today - I needed to kick start the legs again anyway.

The plan for this week - work out 4 days - 30 min X 2 days - 30 min before Suzana and 30 with her - then a 60 min class.

Thursday

Well, a solid foot of snow hit this area on Tuesday night - the roads were not cleared by Wednesday morning - when I skated to work, white knuckled the whole way. After fighting the same driving conditions to get home -I cancelled my appt with my trainer in favor of working on the snow in my driveway. The end result: I did not work out at the gym with the intense cardio for 2 days. I find this makes it harder on me when I go back to do my cardio. I did 30 min today (20 elliptical and 10 treadmill, + 2 on the exerbike, which I am not even counting) I did 15 reps X2 on the lat pulls. Did 5 reps X4 on one arm exercise and 10 reps X3 for another. I then did 25 regular crunches, 25 side-to-side crunches, 10 2-tier crunches, anther 25 regular and another 25 side to side - I feel like I have worked out better when I do the crunches on the floor instead of on the crunch slider thing. Feels like it's more intense on those muscles.

Plan for the rest of this week: Work out X 1 hour tomorrow, workout X1 hour on Sat (30 min of that will be with Suzane)

Monday

Workout today

  • 15 min elliptical
  • 60 min cardio in a spinning class with Suzanne.

Very tired today - I did not want to work out at all this evening, but I went and did the elliptical. Then I went to look for a treadmill and met Suzane (my trainer). She was teaching her first spinning class- "just 15 min", she said to me. So I went - did 40 min, was thinking about leaving. There was another spinning instructor in the class evaluating Suzane. Then 2 people left in front of me (the one girl seemed to have some leg problem that was exacerbated by the class) so after they left, I did not want to leave and make Suzanne look bad. Oh well. I got my workout in and more then I even intended. That's good.

Working out!

Workout list from the remainder of this week:
  • Wednesday the 21st - 20 min elliptical, 20 min treadmill, 10 min bike - all cardio
  • Thursday the 22nd - 15 min elliptical, 10 min treadmill, weights X 5 min or so - machines were cardio
  • Friday - skipped - felt really bored and sad - had a 200 cal bag of cheetoes (not as satisfying as I thought they might be - probably because of the lack of fiber)
  • Saturday the 24th - 20 min elliptical, 20 min treadmill, 10 min bike - all cardio then bicep curls X 10, rows (45 lbs) 18 reps X3, lat pull (45 lbs) 15 X3.

Not been keeping track of the dietary side of my work, but I have been working on eating healthier in general. I did have that one indulgence on Friday - perhaps because I was bored and did not work out that day - and had a 200 cal pack of cheetoes. I did think that was not too bad. I think I am going to have to badger Rosie into the food diary daily, again, because it does help us to keep up with the calorie counts and keeping us on track and without indulginces.

Anyway - My trainer and I rescheduled for Wednesday - I plan to keep working out between half an hour and an hour 4 times a week. At some point when I plateau, I will have to up that - but it is working for now.

I hit 5 lbs lost this week (it's ok - I don't want to find them again!) so now I am down to 212! YAY! It's small - but it's great to me!

Yest I went and did the fitness ride in the morning - 60 minutes... it was better this week than last week. That afternoon, I went and did another 30 min cardio (10 min elliptical, 10 min treadmill, 10 min bike) and did 30 min with Suzana (arms, pects)

I am happy. I am still trying to eat better, but I do not want to deny myself the things I enjoy. I am working to eat good things, but in moderation. I need to get back to calorie counting.

It's a good week. Gotta keep it going though.

Been a busy and emotionally draining day. Had 4 people to see.... the other part of my job was to keep Libby busy and away from certain areas at certain times. Her retirement party was today. Her family surprised her and came in from Georgia. She was soo surprised and happy they were there - She almost started crying but managed to hold it off. The party was great - we had 2 cakes and had to cut small pieces and we still barely had enough. TONS of people there to wish Libby off ( she has been in out hospital system for 40some years!) IT was good. Janel, my boss, even managed to find a pic of me to include in the photo display. I guess the party was a little hard on me because while I was happy for Libby, large groups of people make me very tired and also make me want to run away ( you should see me flee a wedding!) but I gave myself things to do (cutting the cake and assisting with the plating, etc)

after that, had a session with my trainer - worked on core things today so not too much sweating. only 25 jumping jacks today!!! :D I maintained my weight - but I am ok with that because I know I indulged too much this week and need to do better food-wise this week.... Talk to you all later. I think I am off to bed....

Moday Monday....

Was supposed to meet Beth for a spinning class this AM, but somehow we missed each other in passing. So I made it up there and did the class. It was good - At one point, we must have resembled gigantic chickens.... for, in addition to the up and down movement, we were supposed to move our heads up and down like we were bobbing for corn (our instructor said this was to build our cores... but I know the truth.... she wanted a laugh at our expense... LOL) so I made it. It was good - definitely easier than the one I did last week. The instructor did say that the faster you can bring up and bring down your heart rate, the better trained your cardiovascular system is. I only ever got down to the 130's during the workout, but I think that is better than I would have done the first week I went to the gym in December.

So food-wise - today was kinda a bust. Had a banana and yogurt for breakfast, Chicken with lowfat ranch and fries for lunch. and for dinner. ..... well,

it had 10 oz spinach
2 eggs,
1 cup cooked rice
and 2 slices cheese....

Aargh...

oh well.

Tomorrow is another day.

and I will again go to the gym and get this weight off.

THIS IS MY YEAR!!!

What a week!!

I updated my little slide thing on the bottom to reflect that I am down to 213.1!!!! That's almost the first 5 lbs!!!

So yesterday the exercise regimen was

25 min cardio on the treadmil
5 min cardio on the ellipticals
150 jumping jacks (in 25 jack alternating with upper body weights)
40 crunches

I think my trainer is trying to off me!

Today - got all the way to the hospital the agency set up for me (1 hour away) and they did not actually have me on the schedule!! This particular agency takes your times available and then does not tell you when they actually have shifts. "it's your responsibility to call in and make sure you are supposed to work" I am a little miffed - because this is different than the other agencies I have worked for and because I forgot (heck I interviewed there in late Nov!)

So today I went and tried to work it all out at the gym instead of being ticked.
I did

30 min cardio on the elliptical
180 crunches on the crunch slider thing.

I then negated all that work at Pizza hut with one budlight and a personal pan pizza (veggie lovers)

Oh well. Tomorrow is another day and I am getting my pics done with my trainer.

Taking it one day at a time

Yesterday I went and did my first spinning class... it was rough on me - mostly because I am so out of shape. 60 minutes is hard. I wanted to quit after 30 minutes... but I stuck it out, stopped comparing myself to the more fit members of the class and just did what I could. And I made it!!! After class, my tush hurt. (well, it started hurting in class, actually) Those seats were NOT made for comfort. The instructor was nice - he had to help me adjust the bike to my unique physical size. And (BONUS) my trainer was there working out on the treadmill and noted me coming out of class.

Today has been a little bit of a bust, esp in terms of discipline. It's been cold and grey here all day. Very unpleasant. I spent the day cleaning and sorting (WHERE did all these papers come from????) For dinner - I just wanted to get out of the house - I decided to use a gift card I got for Christmas( Thanks Mom) and went to Maggiano's - in my defense, I did have a salad. I also had the appetizer size mushroom ravioli with alfredo (appetizer has 5 ravioli, entree size has 9) and some bread and oil. I had a beer - I have been cutting down on the drinking as this seems to be slowing my weight loss. I had a glass of wine on Sunday and nothing yest. Today the beer and no other ETOH.

Tomorrow is my pictures with my trainer at the gym, and (sigh) we are going to see how fast I can run a mile - I look forward to getting the weight off and getting in shape, but things can be so discouraging when you see people who are already there and compare yourself. Comparison to others is not good - Comparison to where I was is ok.

So Taking it one day at a time - tomorrow will be better than today....
